Biography of David B. Crane
David Crane is a respected authority in Project Management consultation and training. He has delivered consulting services and training to thousands of employees of both small and large firms throughout the United States.
David brings with him over thirty five years of management, consulting, training and software experience. He is the founder and principle of D.B. Crane and Associates, Inc. a company focused on providing Project Management training, consulting and the development of project management software add-on tools. In 1995 (first edition) and again in 2000 (second edition), he co-authored the book titled, Effective Project Management, published by Wiley, ISBN 0-471-36028-7 (Second Edition)
During the past twenty two years he has provided consultation and training to hundreds of corporations from the fields of computer software, hardware, automotive engineering, energy, municipal engineering and manufacturing. His work with these clients has involved both education and the implementation of methods and tools to control and reduce development cycle time. In this capacity he has facilitated the design and implementation of schedule recovery plans to assure on time delivery of major new products. These plans have allowed project team members to discover and re-engineer "bottlenecks" in their processes that would have caused significant delay in their projects. This "real world" experience is used to support the concepts presented in his training sessions.
He has extensive knowledge of project management software tools including 14 years experience with Microsoft® Project. He has developed customized Views, Tables, Filters and Reports in Microsoft® Project and shares the “how to” knowledge with his students and clients. These customized features support a simple, logical approach to project planning and control. This approach is shared with clients both in the classroom and through consulting. He also has experience with Primavera Project Planner, Sure Track, MAPPS, Open Plan and other software.
For the past fourteen years, he has been a member of the Boston University, Corporate Education Center adjunct facility, where he has provided training and consulting services for their Management Development Programs. He has served as a Senior Consultant for Mitchell Management Systems and held various other management positions in the private sector.
David is a member of the Project Management Institute and has been certified by them as a Project Management Professional (PMP). He majored in Psychology at Gordon College in Wenham, MA and studied engineering at Northeastern University.
